Hauling Out on a Rail ~ A First For Us

But even before pics of the haulout, how about some good news?
The updated forecast shows Hurricane Norbert hitting the Magdalena Bay area as a category 1, which is to the North West of us.
Not good news for Mag Bay, but certainly good news for us!Good, get me out of the boatyard!
Today!
We were both eaten alive last night...

And now on to girls jumping on trampolines pics of hauling out on a rail!
This is the seawall with dinghy fenders and the rusty pier we were to aim for.The famous Abel in his famous water jeans and the rail we going to be hauled on.

Here we go with lots of help in the water. The contraption that pulls us out.Looks a little different than a travel-lift doesn't it?

Almost out!Success!Paint and proximity pics to follow...

That's great news about Norbert.
Hey, I need a rail at night to haul me into bed after the Frontera.
;)

Wow, I've never seen anything like that rail lift, looks scarrry... awesome news that the hurricane missed you! Have you ever been in one?

Ha ha overboard - been there before myself...

travis & maggie - it hasn't missed us - it is has been downgraded and will pass a little farther N than we thought - it will be here in about 48 hours, but not as strong and not as close as initially forecasted. Still could get several inches of rain and wind to hurricane force. Been in one before, but we were in a motel room. Was no big deal (afterwards!). This is still one to be concerned about, but things should be fine! We will be in the inner harbor at Costa Baja.

I was in one last year. Cat 1. Henriette. Although everybody who experienced it from a bar stool said it was 'just a tropical storm'.
Yeah, right.
Anyway, my 20-tonne fairy boat dragged it's 3-tonne mooring ball 50 metres, despite my having motored into the surge.
I guess I need more practice.
Knot.
I was lucky though cos the winds were coming from the land. Had they been coming from the sea, well, my boat would be on land by now.
I'm still worried about Norbert. My boat is on the hard and if the ground softens under the stands, eek!
It happened before with my boat, before I bought it. Both sides got gouged by loose stands but being ferrocement was easy enough stick back together.

Great news about Norbert!! You'll get the "softer" side of the beast! I know it will be exciting...they always are, but I'm sure this one will be okay for you guys.

Hey, I like that rail system. It sure is better than that travel lift. Those things always scared me to death. Machinery and straps break! If the cable breaks on the rail system, no biggy (only if it doesn't slash the hull). At least you aren't up in the air! This is one adventure that I do not envy. That's stress I can do without. Looking forward to seeing the painting pics. Love ya!
