Looking for a Catamaran Cruising Blog?

If you found this blog via a link from a cruising site ~ we did cruise Mexico on our Ocean 49 cat for a season. See the first text box on the right for links to our preparations, trip down Baja, life in Mexico, cruising and trip back up to SoCal. Unfortunately we are back to the grind in the USA...

Arrival in Cuyler Harbor, San Miguel Island Saturday 09-08-07

We were finally (never thought I would say that about whales) out of the whales!

I curled up and napped for awhile and then "there it was"!

~~~San Miguel Island and Cuyler Harbor~~~
~~~Our favorite place in the Channel Islands~~~
The sun was shining on the sand dunes and the island was lit up in all it's splendor. We motored inside the kelp bed towards the palm trees to anchor. There were seven other boats already in the bay, including the "Islander" in it's spot. We had a celebratory beer and then dropped the dinghy in the water to cruise outside the anchorage to look at the beaches and seals.

There were a lot of young elephant seals and harbor seals on the beaches. The harbor seals get spooked by the dinghy and head for the water where they feel safe.

We dinghied out to the point where we had a clear view of Castle Rock - famous for more seals, but sharks too!

Then to the beach!
Where we found some more juvenile elephant seals. We poured a glass of wine (me), grabbed a beer (Jim) and took a walk down the most incredible beach in California! Cuyler Harbor has the most amazing soft sand - almost a powder.
There are always cool finds on the beach too.
We watched the "Islander" load up it's 91 passengers then sat on the beach until we had no more sun. We were both happy to be back! Back to the boat for an "Arrogant Bastard" (beer for Jim) and some vino (for me), dinner and listening to the elephant seals bark all night.
