Looking for a Catamaran Cruising Blog?

If you found this blog via a link from a cruising site ~ we did cruise Mexico on our Ocean 49 cat for a season. See the first text box on the right for links to our preparations, trip down Baja, life in Mexico, cruising and trip back up to SoCal. Unfortunately we are back to the grind in the USA...

Sunday Morning - Boat Tours & Dinghy Wheels

After we took care of the fat halibut, Jim got all the tools together to install our dinghy wheels on our new dinghy. Only one of the tires was flat... We figured someone in the anchorage would have a bicycle pump or a compressor. Just as we were going to dinghy around and ask, Steve & Linda Dashew came up in their skiff. Now we had never met these people, but knew who they were. They have circumnavigated, designed and built boats and have written several books (google them)! They also used to own a Columbia 50', so we had something in common (our last boat, "Thistle" was a Columbia 50'). They were interested in our catamaran, so we invited them aboard for a tour. Steve even knew the original designer of our boat, Erik Lerouge (knew him as in he is a friend not "know of him"). We gave them the 10 minute tour and sat and talked for an hour or so. Of course they had a compressor on their boat, so invited us over to "Wind Horse". Wow is all we could say!!
Their boat was incredible!!
Their master stateroom had more
closet space than most average homes.
Linda gave me the tour and shared all her galley details.
Steve showed Jim around then started the compressor to fill the tire.
It was really neat to meet the two of them!

Then to the beach to work on the dinghy wheels. Jim took all his tools in, drilled holes, dry-fit the parts, cut, drilled more holes and then it turned out the bolts were too short to go through the dinghy and the metal slides to hold the wheels. He dinghied back to the boat in search of longer bolts, found some, tried them and they were still too short! So caulked up the holes to finish another time.

In between handing him tools and parts, I took pictures.
