Looking for a Catamaran Cruising Blog?

If you found this blog via a link from a cruising site ~ we did cruise Mexico on our Ocean 49 cat for a season. See the first text box on the right for links to our preparations, trip down Baja, life in Mexico, cruising and trip back up to SoCal. Unfortunately we are back to the grind in the USA...

Thunder and Lightning #2 - This Time Too Close for Comfort...

Yesterday we watched this form on one of the weather sites.La Paz is located in the smaller system in the center of the photo.

And we watched this come our way! These were the darkest, blackest clouds I had ever seen!

Then rain, lots and lots of very close lightning strikes and very loud thunder!

Some strong wind and white caps too.

We saw several huge, very close lightning strikes between us and The Mogote.
We heard one boat that was anchored out there took a lightning strike and lost all of his electronics...

We get these storms here and when we do I love to go out on the screened porch and watch. There is a certain pleasure that comes from NOT BEING ON A BOAT during big electrical storms! NOW I get to enjoy them. Of course we unplug all electronics and once had to get out the handy dandy genset from the boat! Cooked dinner and watched a movie while the power was out....neighbors were confused....they didn't have lights!!
