Looking for a Catamaran Cruising Blog?

If you found this blog via a link from a cruising site ~ we did cruise Mexico on our Ocean 49 cat for a season. See the first text box on the right for links to our preparations, trip down Baja, life in Mexico, cruising and trip back up to SoCal. Unfortunately we are back to the grind in the USA...

Monday 03-24-08 ~ San Jose to Los Frailes

Up to a cool morning with breeze off the land.
Hmmmmm... what does this mean?
We kind of wondered about it, as we would be heading up around the East Cape today.

The guys filled the water, washed the boat.
I checked out of the marina and Pam cleaned the floor.

To the fuel dock - took about an hour to fill the tanks with their slow pumps.

Finally motoring out the channel around 10:30.

On the way out a bird flew into our mast and fell into the water.
He must have been depressed or something?

Pulled the main up and unfurled the jib - got up to an easy 9 knots.

Saw rays jumping and splashing on both sides of the boat and a few whales.

Got around the corner and into some slop!
And I mean slop!
There must have been wind somewhere to leave this chop and cause us to slam around.
Pounded and tacked our way up along the coast.

Saw a whale breaching in the distance and watched it for awhile.
As we got closer I was able to get some pictures and see that it was two whales!

It was amazing!

Pulled into Frailes - one other boat there, which turned out to be ex-clients of mine! I used to write their homeowners insurance 10-11 years ago (I love my small world!)...

Beautiful sand dunes and beach.

Los Frailes is the Eastern-most part of the Baja peninsula.

Made margaritas and poured wine to celebrate our arrival.

The water was 71.4 degrees, so Jim jumped in, I slid in and Stan went in headfirst.

Had Hora Feliz with smoked clams, herring and English cheddar cheese.Made spaghetti with Italian sausage.

Watched the sun slide over the hills.

Watched the stars and saw the Southern Cross ~ Pretty cool as I hadn't seen that in years!
