Looking for a Catamaran Cruising Blog?

If you found this blog via a link from a cruising site ~ we did cruise Mexico on our Ocean 49 cat for a season. See the first text box on the right for links to our preparations, trip down Baja, life in Mexico, cruising and trip back up to SoCal. Unfortunately we are back to the grind in the USA...

MMmmm, Mmmmm, The Fresh Smell of Varnish!

I have a roast in the crockpot.
I have oatbread baking in the bread machine.

And guess what I can smell?

Yep, yummy, yummy varnish!

Jim has sanded and is varnishing our table.
This table fits outside in our cockpit and also at our dinette inside.
We move it back and forth depending on weather.

It will look beautiful when he is finished, as he is awesome at varnishing.
I know because I used to help him varnish a boat way back when we were dating.
What fun.
Anyway, that is what I am smelling today ~ varnish!

Awww. That's a sweet dating memory.

Lovely table.
My little table is pathetic. About the size of a skateboard.

I actually miss the smell of varnish. We spent one whole summer varnishing Pepina Rae and then promptly made canvas covers for everything. Every once in a while I would take the covers off and admire that beautiful glossy stuff.

However, I think I might prefer the smell of pot roast and oat bread! Have enough for us?

I love varnish. I rock at varnishing. Oh lord, I missed the word "roast" the first time i read Ray and Lucy's comment and thought "wow, they sure are candid about their extracurriculars" thought they were potheads.... never mind...

Ha, don't mind her, she hasn't been able to sniff the varnish fumes in awhile.

So now that you are married, you don't do varnish? Way to go, girl!

Now that we are married? Ha ha - been married for over 13 years!

That's why we bought a plastic boat - less wood.

I do wash his jammies tho...

Jolea - what do you not do? You varnish, cook, clean. I want to clone you.

Pathetic tables are tables too.

Yes, Lucy you had canvas for everything! And beautifully made too.

Heather, my baby girl is a catch, either for a ocean going vessel or a guy (she'd rather be on a boat.) She's from a long line of 'do it ALL yourself-ers'. And I've yet to find any work she's not afraid to do. She's pretty amazing if I have to say so myself.

Sounds "like parents like daughter" to me.
