Looking for a Catamaran Cruising Blog?

If you found this blog via a link from a cruising site ~ we did cruise Mexico on our Ocean 49 cat for a season. See the first text box on the right for links to our preparations, trip down Baja, life in Mexico, cruising and trip back up to SoCal. Unfortunately we are back to the grind in the USA...

Sam's Club and Walmart Arrive in La Paz!

Ok, my absolutely, positively, 100% least favorite store in the United States is Walmart.
Hands down.
K-Mart is a close second.
So as the world will someday be known as "Wallyworld", they take over La Paz...
And I actually want to go there.
Well, we need saline solution for our eyeballs.
We ventured into Sam's Club yesterday.
Great meats!
3000 pound sacks of flour!
Decent prices!
Mayonnaise jars the size of Alabama!
Good produce!
Boxes of 2500 granola bars!
Cheap wine!
So that is what we checked out.
The cheap wine.
We bought several bottles and held a red wine tasting on the boat last night with Alex and Sue of "Maitairoa".From left to right:
The winner!
Vina Maipo 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile ~ $46 pesos / $3.49 US a bottle.

Don Simon Tempranillo from Spain ~ ok for table wine, but at $24 pesos / $1.86 US a bottle, still a winner!

Opera Prima 2007 Tempranillo from Spain ~ really good and at $38 pesos / $2.90 US even better!

Opera Prima 2007 Shiraz from Spain ~ different with a floral hint to it, which Sue and Heather liked, but Alex did not ~ still good for $38 pesos / $2.90 US!

Opera Prima 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon ~ oh such sad faces on this one... the bottle was fizzy. A bad bottle. We will use it for wine coolers and buy another one for tasting next time... $38 pesos / $2.90 US.

We TASTED.

But the tastes added up and somehow we got onto a conversation about our shoes.

And how many pairs of Crocs we each own.

Here is my collection.
I won.

Then we walked up to Super Burro for dinner.
Yum!
Another fun evening with fun people in La Paz!

I would like a glass of the wine in the red bottle labeled ABC in the back left!

I have got to move to Mexico... I can't believe that! The savings on wine can be transferred to shoes... this is fantastic news.

So you guys have a Sam's Club and a Walmart now?? Do you still have to have a membership to shop at Sam's like you do here? Walmart really is trying to take over the world.

Yes we had to pay a whole bunch of pesos for Sam's Club. But they have them in Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta too.

I was wondering if you saw any dishwashers while shopping at Sam's Club in La Paz? We'll be driving from Loreto to La Paz, in November,to make that purchase. You could save me some time. Thanks for your help!
